DOCUMENTARY FILM "Prague Castle through the Ages"

The film documentary converts the basic theme of the "static" exhibition into a living visual document that shows the transformation of the Prague Castle complex over the various historical stages, as well as over various times of the day and the year. Unlike the route through the exhibition halls and castle spaces, the screening offers visitors a moment of rest, recapitulation and at the same time, a condensed artistic experience.

       

The viewer has an opportunity to look through the important stages in the history of the castle, enriched by unusual and suggestive perspectives on architecture, sculptural decoration, castle furniture and historical prints that depict long vanished sites in the castle complex. In less than an hour, the film evokes for the viewer the thousand years of the castle´s existence, the periods of prosperity and fame and the periods of catastrophe and stagnation. It also conjures up the different buildings and rooms, sinking down to the cellars and archaeological excavations underground and rising to the vaults and the buttressing system of the cathedral. All of it shown in views and vistas, in interesting shades of light and shadow and in large close-ups.
