Address by the General Partner
Dear Visitors,
The Story of Prague Castle clearly represented a great challenge. To begin with, the authors of the exhibition certainly did not suspect how the theme would unfold under their hands, to what extent it would expand, or how many new and unexpected things they would discover. Naturally, every exhibition has its limitations, but the Story of Prague Castle should not have any and should never come to an end. Why is that? In the case of the castle, there is no one story to tell, but hundreds and thousands of events, some great, some minor, which took place not only in the distant past, but also a few years ago. Some of these events are being played out right now.
One of them had a fundamental impact on the Královský pivovar Krušovice, a. s. (Royal Krušovice Brewery) and thus on us personally. The story of the brewery and the castle began in 1581. At that time, the owner of the brewery in Krušovice, Jan Bírka z Násile, offered it to the Crown of the Bohemian Kingdom, Rudolf II, who actually did buy the brewery in 1583. Rudolf II enjoyed Krušovice beer on numerous hunting trips in the nearby forest of Køivoklát. He liked the golden beverage so much that he even had it delivered from Krušovice to Prague Castle. The Bohemian Crown owned the brewery for more than a hundred years. Although it sold it in 1685 to Arnošt Josef z Valdštejna (Waldstein), the close tie between Krušovice and Prague Castle lasted up to the present and continues to develop.
One of the messages of the exhibition is reflected in this story as well: "The past, the present and the future cannot be separated. In order to understand the present and prosper in the future, we not only have to know the past, we should also try and understand it. Then it can help us to be proud and self-confident, qualities that we Czechs often lack."
At the Royal Krušovice Brewery, we are all truly proud that our brewery has become part of the telling of the Story and we ourselves will try to continue the narration. How? For example, by providing superb Krušovice beer to be served on ceremonial occasions at Prague Castle; and by providing financial support and quality service for important cultural events that the castle organises, such as the exhibition The Story of Prague Castle.
We are grateful to have had the opportunity to become the general partner of this beautiful and valuable exposition. We hope that as many visitors as possible will find their stories in it and continue the narration, as we do. That way the exhibition will truly never come to an end.
